Mass Earthwork

At an undisclosed location, one of the largest private earthwork projects in South Central Kentucky in 2018.  Solid Ground was contacted to provide geotechnical engineering services prior to earthwork operations.  During earthwork operations, Solid Ground performed on-site inspections 24 hours a day.  Through innovative value engineering recommendations, the client was able to save in cost utilizing on-site material.

Industrial Press Pit

This industrial press pit had a massive deep excavation was approximately the size of two fast food restaurants.  Through partnerships, Solid Ground's innovative approach consisted of shoring the existing caissons supporting a crane system with an intricate structural and geotechnical design.   

Karst-Sinkhole

Kentucky's geological setting is prone to Karst activity.  This residential property, occupying approximately 6,000 square feet, was condemned by the local jurisdiction due to the collapsed sinkhole.  Through partnerships, Solid Ground provided value engineering at an economical cost and construction management services to remediate the sinkhole and lift the condemnation decree.  The foundation was engineer designed to bear upon a push pier foundation system.  The sinkhole was remediated with a reinforced concrete plug.

Steel and Concrete Railway Trestle

At an undisclosed location at a government facility, Solid Ground provided geotechnical engineering services and construction monitoring for a new structural steel and concrete railway. Solid Ground provided value foundation engineering that allowed the project to come under budget and ahead of schedule.

Subgrade Improvement

Very soft soils, very high risk of Karst pronedsinkholes, high water table, heavily loaded building and a schedule that was considered fast paced, Solid Ground provided geotechnical, geophysical services and provided foundation and subgrade improvement methods to meet the clients schedule and financial budget, and also provided a low risk option for future settlement of the multi-story building and slab on grade. 

Value Engineering

The project had problematic issues consisting of shallow bedrock and very high risk of sinkhole development, Solid Ground provided innovative geotechnical engineering and special inspections at an Industrial site within South Central Kentucky in which over 200 jobs would be added to the economy.  

High Plasticity Clay

Solid Ground encountered very high plasticity fat clay at an industrial location near Madison County, Kentucky. Fat clays are known to shrink and swell damaging foundations and grade supported slab. Eliminating shrink and swell for the floor slab was a critical. Solid Ground provided an innovative approach to maintain consistent moisture levels and density within the upper 3 feet to lower the overall risk of slab movement. 

Slope Failures

Slope failures are common during long and heavy wet periods in areas of steep topography. Solid Ground was contacted to provide recommendations for an unstable slope exhibiting extreme movement with noticeable tension cracking spanning a distance of over 200 feet. Through innovation and past experience, Solid Ground provided several options to remediate the slope. 

Firestop Inspections

Solid Ground has provided Firestop inspections for numerous Health Care Facilities, Department of Defense, Department of Corrections throughout.

MSE Retaining Wall Design

Solid Ground provided geo-structural services designing the most economical solution for the below grade wall. In lieu of a concrete reinforced wall, this wall was constructed utilizing MSE segmental retaining wall blocks and Tensar Geogrid reinforcement which provided cost savings to our client. 

Due Diligence

Solid Ground has provided environmental engineering consisting of Phase I and II and due diligence throughout Kentucky. 

Holiday Inn Express

Through partnerships, we provided Holiday Inn Express near the Tennessee and Kentucky line, with project development, site design, civil engineering, special inspections, geotechnical and value engineering. Several problems occurred during construction due to limited access and inclement weather conditions. Solid Ground was able to provide innovative solutions to maximize cost savings and ensure schedule was met.

UK-Kroger Field

Solid Ground provided water infiltration testing and drainage analysis at the new Kroger Field located in Lexington, Kentucky. As a company with several alumni, it was with great pleasure to serve the University of Kentucky with engineering services. 

UK-Grehan Addition

Solid Ground provided Kentucky Building Code Chapter 17 Special Inspections for the addition to the existing Journalism Building for the University of Kentucky.  As a company with several alumni, it was with great pleasure to serve the University of Kentucky with engineering services

Boonesboro Elementary School

Solid Ground provided Kentucky Building Code Chapter 17 Special Inspections and Site Inspections for the new elementary school located in Northern Madison County.
